In honor of March Madness this year, we made a bracket of our own, showcasing universities’ off-campus student housing needs. We put all 64 teams head-to-head against each other comparing the number of students in need of off-campus housing, a driving factor for student housing developers.
To determine our figure, we utilized Fall 2023 enrollment data and the capacity of on-campus student housing to calculate the number of students requiring off-campus housing.
Our Final Four consisted of University of Auburn from the East, California State University Long Beach from the West, University of Houston from the South, and University of Texas at Austin from the Midwest. These schools are prominent public universities with a student population exceeding 30,000 students, with no mandatory on-campus living requirement, thus having the largest off-campus housing populations.
Our March Madness bracket provides insights into the off-campus housing needs for universities. By comparing the number of students in need of off-campus housing, we highlighted a crucial factor for student housing developers.
