Today, we’re shining the spotlight on Steve Manzo, an Internal Communications Specialist on the Corporate Marketing team, to learn more about his role at Berkadia, what part of his role he is most passionate about, and advice he’d give the younger version of himself.

Describe your role at Berkadia.

My role involves all things internal communications at Berkadia! As an Internal Communications Specialist, I work alongside different groups across the company to help them plan messaging goals, tactics, and execution so they can communicate to the company in an effective and polished manner.

As part of my duties, I assist in preparing content for companywide communications such as newsletters, emails, town halls, and events with a key focus on promoting the consistency of Berkadia’s brand voice and style across all our messaging. Most notably, among those responsibilities is the production and publishing of our monthly internal newsletter, The Berkadian.

What part of your role are you most passionate about?

One of my favorite aspects of my role is the fact that it touches every corner of Berkadia’s business. Whether it be our management committee, production network, servicing group, innovation and technology teams, and beyond, every team has a message to share, and my team and I are there to support them at every step.

As a bonus, my role has allowed me to meet and work alongside a wide range of the many great Berkadians across all departments. Getting to know each of them and helping them reach their goals allows me to feel the impact I make with my work each and every day.

What advice would you give to a younger version of yourself coming into the commercial real estate industry?

I’d tell myself that when collaborating with folks from other teams, do not be afraid to ask for further insight and understanding on the work they do and their ultimate goals. I was new to the industry upon arriving at Berkadia, so this was key in developing relationships and making sure my work had meaningful impact. Knowledge and experience come with time, but expressing interest and willingness to help and learn are immediate ways to make a positive first and lasting impression.

When you’re not helping Berkadia move the industry forward, how do you spend your time?

I like to spend my time with family and friends, going to the movies, watching sports, reading, enjoying the outdoors, collecting records and listening to music, practicing photography, and traveling.

How has your time at Berkadia helped to accelerate your personal and professional development?

The Corporate Marketing team at Berkadia has been the greatest influence and my favorite to work alongside in my professional career thus far. They’ve been a shining example of how to work with a level of diligence, openness, respect, and class that I aim to bring to everything I do.

Berkadia has also provided me with ample opportunity to tackle new projects and challenge myself in new and exciting ways.

Anything else you would like to add?

Berkadia is a company full of people who are not only dedicated to excellence in their own work, but also to the success and well-being of their colleagues and clients. I strive to uphold these tenets in my own work while helping lead Berkadia to new heights. It is genuinely an exciting place to be.
