BeBerkadia Spotlight Series: Hannah Nekterov

August 16, 2022

At Berkadia, our success is built upon the talent and hard work of a broad, diversely skilled team. From graphic designers to loan closing specialists to product designers, each of our people brings a unique background, perspective and expertise. Their work allows Berkadia to remain a leader in the commercial real estate industry.

Today, we’re shining the spotlight on Hannah Nekterov, Corporate Marketing Intern, who sits in the Ambler, PA office, to learn more about her internship experience at Berkadia and advice she’d give to others to land an internship here.

Describe your internship at Berkadia, what department you’re in and how you’re liking the program so far.

I’m currently interning on the Corporate Marketing team out of Ambler, PA, focusing on marketing and public relations. This has truly been a great experience for my first internship, especially when I’m getting hands on experience in the field I want to pursue in the future.

Going through Berkadia’s internship program has been an extremely valuable experience. It’s been an amazing opportunity for learning, growth and making connections. The interns have the opportunity to meet Berkadians across the organization, getting a glimpse into all of the different aspects of commercial real estate. While I appreciate the webinars and meetings, we’ve been having with these individuals to learn more about the industry, it also means a lot that these executives are taking time out of their busy days to educate the interns. It makes us feel like we really matter and are helping the bottom line.

What is your major in school and how did you find out about Berkadia?  Were you always interested in CRE?

I’m currently a rising Junior at the University of Tampa, majoring in marketing and minoring in advertising. I actually discovered Berkadia though my mom, Janna Bray, who’s been at Berkadia for over twelve years.

I’ve always had an interest and curiosity towards the real estate industry, however I only became more involved through this internship.

What stood out about Berkadia when you were interviewing for your internship role?

When I started the interview process, I was super nervous and stressed. After meeting with members of the marketing team, I immediately felt relieved. Everyone was very casual, nice and outgoing. I felt like I already belonged on their team the minute we started connecting during the interview.

What advice would you have for somebody looking to get involved in CRE? What has your internship at Berkadia taught you about your future commercial real estate career or yourself?

I would encourage others to be eager to learn about the company and people’s positions. The more you can learn, the better. I’d also say to be yourself and be confident in your abilities—you got the internship because the people at the company are confident in your skillset so you should be too!

My internship at Berkadia has taught me that I want to work at a company with a similar culture. The people here are so friendly and welcoming. Everyone is willing to talk to you about their position, give their advice and help you learn. Berkadia has also taught me so much about my marketing major through hands on projects and Teams calls that I would never get to experience in a classroom.
