Today, we’re shining the spotlight on the Chief People Officer Danielle D’Andrea, to learn more about her role at Berkadia, what part of her role she is most passionate about, and advice she’d give the younger version of herself.

Describe your role at Berkadia.

As the Chief People Officer, I serve as the leader of Berkadia’s People Team. We strive to create an environment in which our employees can thrive and become their best selves. We also help to achieve business outcomes by setting Berkadians up to succeed, whether that is by recruiting top talent, delivering professional development experiences, or providing support to drive optimal performance outcomes.

What part of your role are you most passionate about?

What provides me with the greatest sense of purpose in my role is the ability to build meaningful relationships with my colleagues and help make a positive impact on their lives, both professionally and personally.  This involves delivering the best options for supporting the health and wellbeing of our employees and their families, designing programs that increase job satisfaction and a sense of belonging, and helping our employees to realize their professional aspirations and achieve their goals. The potential to have a positive and personal impact on those with whom we work and serve is without a doubt the aspect of my role that I am most passionate about.

What excites you most about commercial real estate?

Commercial real estate (CRE) is an industry that is filled with endless possibilities. It encourages an innovative, entrepreneurial approach that empowers individuals to bring their best ideas to the table, while also emphasizing the power of collaboration to achieve success at scale. The cherry on top? I have the honor of working with some of the best and brightest talent in this industry.  

What advice would you give to a younger version of yourself coming into the commercial real estate industry? What is the best piece of advice you have received?

Don’t be afraid to ask questions and practice genuine curiosity! Be a sponge and soak in as many educational and growth-promoting opportunities as you can when you enter the workforce. Feel comfortable saying, “I don’t know everything there is to know about this topic yet – can you teach me?” and take advantage of every opportunity to learn and grow. Often, those you ask will jump at the chance to share their wisdom with an eager learner.

When you’re not helping Berkadia move the industry forward, how do you spend your time?

Outside of work, I try to spend time outdoors with friends and family as much as possible. I enjoy camping, hiking, gardening, and going to the park with my English Bulldog.  

How has your time at Berkadia helped to accelerate your personal and professional development?

My time at Berkadia thus far has presented me with ample opportunities to develop personally and professionally.  I attribute this to the incredible leadership team we have here, who have a vested interest in creating space and opportunity for all employees to learn and perfect their craft. There are no locked doors to opportunity at Berkadia, you only have to open the door and step into your potential!
