Today, we’re shining the spotlight on the Content Manager for our People Team, Pattie Kurnik, to learn more about her role at Berkadia, what part of her role she is most passionate about, and how Berkadia has helped to accelerate her personal and professional development.

Describe your role at Berkadia.
In my role at Berkadia, I lead communications and content management for our People Team, which includes Talent Attraction & Engagement, Total Rewards, Learning & Development, Human Resources, People Operations, and all aspects of the company culture. We’re not a traditional HR department. Our centers of excellence collaborate under one roof to empower Berkadia’s greatest asset—our people—to achieve their fullest potential within our values-based culture.
Each day brings new challenges and opportunities, and I draw on my nearly eight years at Berkadia to enhance the experiences and engagement of our employees. This place is special; it’s authentic, and the environment is deeply collaborative.
What part of your role are you most passionate about?
Innovating. A significant part of my role involves identifying new and exciting ways to evolve Berkadia’s employee experience while staying true to our values. Innovation is not only safe here, but also encouraged and expected. Nothing excites me more than leveraging workplace technology to enhance engagement among our people and encourage them to connect with each other in meaningful ways.
What excites you most about commercial real estate?
The people. The commercial real estate (CRE) industry is filled with immense talent, and at Berkadia, we work with the best of the best. We have some of the most driven individuals here, who operate with integrity and keep our shared goals at the forefront. We collaborate to achieve shared business outcomes, which requires strong, trusting relationships. The spirit of collaboration and the talent we attract are what make Berkadia exceptional.
When you’re not helping Berkadia move the industry forward, how do you spend your time?
Outside of work, I focus on being a parent to my toddler. Balancing work and parenting is challenging and humbling. Being a parent grounds me and serves as a constant reminder that we are all imperfect human beings. This perspective helps me better connect with our people at Berkadia and challenges me to grow in understanding the needs of those around me.
How has your time at Berkadia helped to accelerate your personal and professional development?
When I joined Berkadia eight years ago, I was new to the industry, having spent much of my early career working for non-profit organizations. From the outset, I sensed that my curiosity about the human experience and commitment to helping others aligned with Berkadia’s values.
In addition to aligning with our values, Berkadia’s culture of learning has been instrumental in my development. Throughout my time here, several leaders have recognized my potential and provided me with opportunities to grow and contribute more.
Learning is a continuous journey here, and no matter where you are in your career, you’ll always have someone supporting and challenging you to stretch.
