June 4, 2024

At Berkadia, our success is built upon the talent and hard work of a broad, diversely skilled team. From analysts to loan closing specialists to managing directors each of our people brings a unique background, perspective and expertise. Their work allows Berkadia to remain a leader in the commercial real estate industry.

Today, we’re shining the spotlight on Project Manager, Team Lead for Berkadia Phoenix and Las Vegas Investment Sales, Melissa McBride, to learn more about her role at Berkadia, what part of her role she is most passionate about, and advice she’d give the younger version of herself.

Describe your role at Berkadia.

As a Project Manager, Team Lead for the Phoenix and Las Vegas offices on the investment sales side, I handle the creation of the deals in Omniview, design marketing materials, and take everything from the beginning of the project up until launch (BOV to listing). In doing so, I make sure the whole deal process runs smoothly. Furthermore, I train all incoming project managers on our processes and tools to get them up and running and ready for their teams.

What part of your role are you most passionate about?

The area I am most passionate about is the training of the incoming project managers because I enjoy meeting new people and helping them along as they get started with their teams. Additionally, I am passionate about design; I love the creativity involved in making marketing materials. Every day, I learn more about design and strive to constantly elevate our team’s materials. I’m self-taught and have learned so much by taking classes through LinkedIn and am thankful that Berkadia provides us with so many training opportunities!

What excites you most about commercial real estate?

Coming from residential real estate, commercial real estate definitely is a different beast. I love the fast-paced environment, being super busy, and working alongside some wonderful brokers.

What advice would you give to a younger version of yourself coming into the commercial real estate industry? What is the best piece of advice you have received?

Stay positive and when you think you can’t, you can. Ask questions even if you think they are silly and gain all the knowledge you can.

When you’re not helping Berkadia move the industry forward, how do you spend your time?

I volunteer doing administrative work for a local hospice organization. I enjoy flipping and refinishing furniture, crafting, and coloring. I also love being outdoors, hiking, working in the yard, and spending time with my family.

How has your time at Berkadia helped to accelerate your personal and professional development?

Working at Berkadia has taught me so much. I have pushed myself to expand my skills in various areas and have taken opportunities that initially seemed beyond my capabilities. With encouragement from myself and colleagues, I discovered that I could actually do the things I once thought were impossible. There are so many ways to grow and learn at Berkadia, it’s just a matter of pushing yourself to do those things and realizing you can do anything that you put your mind to.

Anything else you would like to add?

I feel very blessed to be working with this company. I say it all the time, but I absolutely love Berkadia. The culture, the environment, the people—everything about it makes me happy. I am constantly seeing how everyone chips in to help others, and you can see and feel how much we all care about each other, which you don’t find in a lot of other companies. I really do love my job, the work I get to do every day, the people I train, and the wonderful coworkers I work with in this great organization.
